Day 28 - Ugly Hearts

Follow on twitter @SkylyLove

As I made this beautiful chiffon rose heart headband this morning, I couldn't help but think about the contrast from this gorgeous heart, to the ugly hearts of the selfish, in today's world.  Yesterday on my way to work my car over-heated. I pulled over at a rather busy intersection, in the heart of Davie. There was a nice little field that gave me plenty of room to pull over safely a good 10-15 feet away from the main roads.  Sky was fussing because she thought we were at our destination and was confused as to why I didn't jump out right away and get her out of her seat.  Stressed, I lifted Sky out of the car and went to investigate under the hood.  To my complete, grotesque astonishment, no one even asked if I need help.  A cop even passed by and didn't bother to check on us.  Luckily I didn't need help, my mom was on her way to pick up Sky; and I had a gallon of water in my front seat just waiting for my car to cool to be poured into the engine. It just would have been nice if someone would have least asked if we needed help. That's all.

Day 26 & 27 - Busy, Busy, Busy!

Yesterday was such a busy day I had absolutely no time to post a headband, I barely had time to make it. So I'm posting yesterday's and today's headbands in this same blog post. I really wish that I had time to write about each one of these headbands today but as you know, I work outside of my home on Monday's. Another busy day. I am looking forward to the craft fair at Bedners Farm this coming Saturday and am hoping I can get everything done that I want to. Busy, busy, busy... I love it!

Day 26

Day 27

I will post to my etsy shop tonight when I get home from work.

Day 25 - Getting more personal

Follow on twitter @SkylyLove

I haven't made a "froofy-girly" headband like this in a while so I thought it was time.  I'm thinking I'm going to start something new and talk about how each headband pertains to what's going on in my life, or my head. I want to be a real person to you all, not just another business.
Starting with this really girly headband, which if you know me I'm not a girly-girl by any means. Surprising right? You would think someone in the headband business would be.
Some of you may not know this, but Skyly Love is my daughters name. A lot of people ask us how we came up with it: it wasn't easy.  My husband and I both loved the name Sky but had a hard time coming up with a middle name that we really liked for a one-syllable first name. "Sky Love" just didn't seem right. So we added the "ly" for a better flow. Now why "Love"? It's the first "Fruit of the Spirit" from
Galatians 22-23. We may start a trend where each of our children will have a fruit of the Spirit for their middle name. Not to say that one of our kids will have "Self-Control" as their middle name, but maybe "Bhagyanandana" which is Sanskrit for self control. Wait, was that a bad example? Ummm... maybe this isn't going to work out after all!
Ha! Oh well.
Back to this headband. It's really girly, right? I realized the other day how much of a girly-girl Sky is. I finally got my 14 month old a pair of shoes (yeah I'm a bad parent, whatever).  I just don't see why kids need shoes, but I guess it's socially acceptable and blah blah blah blah blah. Honestly I was just sick of the looks I got any time I put her down in public. There feet! Their supposed to be dirty!  I apologize for my little rampage. The sandals I bought for her are so cute. When I got home with them and she saw them, her face lit up. She sat right on my lap and offered me her cute little feet. I put them on, put her down and marveled as she paced the floor, back and forth, starring at her new shoes. As tom-boyish as I've always been, I never imagined enjoying my little girl in all her girly-glory as much as I am.

Day 23 - Red Rosettes in the Spring Sky

Follow on Twitter @SkylyLove

I've been wanting to do a red on blue headband for a while now, I just couldn't figure out how to go about it. I think I finally figured it out! This is a lot like like my headband on Day 12, I did say I would be working more with this pattern.  This one is smaller than day 12.

Day 22 - Chocolate Cake with Buttercream Frosting

Follow on twitter @SkylyLove
If the title didn't make you hungry this super sweet headband sure will!

Day 22 of my headband challenge and still going strong. At day 10 of this challenge, I have to admit I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. Now on day 22, I can't wait for each new headband. I've expanded my skills, knowledge and fan base.  This headband business is a competitive one, but as I do my research I become more confident in my creativity. I encourage anyone trying to start their own business to try a 100 day blog challenge, whatever your product may be there's an audience to be reached.

The next giveaway will be at 250 fans, so spread the word, the faster we get to 250 the sooner the giveaway!

Day 21 - SkylyBlue

Follow on Twitter @SkylyLove

So I'm trying a new thing with backgrounds, today I think is a definite improvement from yesterdays pictures. I think the simpler the background, the more it brings out the detail and color of the headband. I absolutely adore this headband, but I pretty much love anything with the color blue.
Congratulations to Madia Singer who won my '200th fan contest'! She won the Red and White Valentine Headband from Day 14.  Our next contest will be when we hit 250 fans, so let your friends know and spread the word if you want to hurry and start that contest! Thanks so much to everyone that participated!

Day 20!! Contest ends tonight at 10 pm EST

or
Follow on Twitter @SkylyLove

So what do you think about the white background? I've been reading etsy blogs and they suggest crisp white backgrounds so others will more likely add your items to their treasury.  Still don't completely understand the whole treasury thing, and why it needs to "match", it sounds like an OCD thing to me.
Anywho, I'll be at Bedners farm in Boyton Beach on Saturday, February 4th selling my headbands. I'll be sharing a booth with a friend of mine, Stephanie Goode who will be selling her collection of Thirty-One Gifts. If you live in the Boyton area, stop by and mention that your a fan of SkylyLove on facebook and I'll give you 10% off any headband of your choice.
In other news, I have a contest going on right now.  Here's how to enter:
1.Let your friends know about the contest by tagging SkylyLove on your wall (you can do this by using the @ sign before typing SkylyLove)

Day 18 - Vintage Colors

If I had a theme for today, I guess it would be "Vintage". If you haven't yet, make sure to check out my tutorial on Fraying Ribbon. I'll be adding more tutorials soon, so be on the lookout all you crafters!

For sizes and pricing please visit my Etsy shop, SkylyLove.

How to Fray Ribbon: Vintage Look

I have a "Headband of the Day" for you all, but first I wanted to share with you a little tutorial on fraying ribbon. I love the look of frayed ribbon, it's an easy way to give any project a more vintage look. The ribbon in this tutorial is100% polyester ribbon which I find works best for fraying.

Use sharp scissors to cut the sealed sides off your ribbon. Try to stay as close to the edge as possible without cutting into the sealed part.

Use your thumb nail to gently pick apart exactly how much of your ribbon you want frayed from the edge.

Gently pull down the thread until it is completely removed from the end of your ribbon.
Sealing Tip: You can seal the ends of your ribbon by lightly melting it with a lighter.

I love using this fraying technique in a lot of my floral headbands, it just adds the perfect amount of detail to any ribbon project.

In this headband I frayed both the flowers and the ribbon.

Frayed the left beige rolled flower.

Frayed white rolled flower.

Day 17 - Chiffon flowers!

I'm really liking the chiffon flowers right now, so expect to see plenty.  The colors in this headpiece are very vibrant and eye-catching! Oh and I have now turquoise elastic band to compliment the flowers!

Day 15 - Shabby-Chic

I'm loving this shabby-chic ruffled headband with rhinestone chain! The frayed edges gives it that classic vintage look.  I was super excited about posting this headband, and now I have no clue what to say about it lol. It's just simply stunning,
I think :)

Day 14 - Red and White Valentine

Another one for my Valentines day collection. Red and shimmery white yo-yo flowers over white birdcage netting. One thing I really love about this headband is that it's not overwhelming on your head, yet the detail is enough to demand attention.

For sizes and pricing on this item please visit my Etsy shop, SkylyLove.

Day 13 - Which was yesterday...

This one is a little late in coming. Mondays are crazy for me, as I'm sure I told you last Monday. Yesterday was a late work day and by the time I made it home there was no sun left to take a good picture. I rely on natural light, I'm no photographer or anything, I've just noticed it looks better lol.  Now, I'm gonna go work on my headband for today, see you soon with another post!

Day 12 - How Romantic

So I've decided to stick with a Valentines Day theme for the next couple days. The rolled rosettes over the soft, ivory lace is so romantic it almost makes me blush.  I love this style, expect me to experiment more with this design but with other colors.

Day 11 - It's Tebow Time!!!

This is my headband for tonight's festivities, can you guess what they are? Watching the Broncos and Patriots game, of course! This is a horrible photo of the headband, and by first glance you may think that I'm rooting for the Pats, you are mistaken; the red looking flowers are actually bright orange. That's right, lets GO BRONCOS!!!!! Honestly I'm just a big Tim Tebow fan, if you hate Tebow then I encourage you to read THIS ARTICLE and see if you still hate him after.
Some of you may not know this, but my husband plays college football for FAU (Florida Atlantic University). He's starting center and I'm so proud of him for all he's accomplished. My newest dream is that next year when he's put into the draft that he would play for the Broncos. I know it's far fetched, but needless to say it would be so cool if he played Tebows center!! Football is a big part of our lives here in the Sessa house, so this wont be the last football inspired headband you see on this blog.

Day 10! - Only 90 more headbands to go lol

Wow, is it day 10 of my 'headband a day' challenge' already?!?! Only 90 more days to go... what have I gotten myself into? Ha!
I'm surprisingly most pleased with the outcome of this headband considering I just kind of threw it together in like 10 minutes. It's a rather simple design with just the off-white lace bow and salmon colored feather over the gray metal band.
I haven't decided yet if I'm going to put it up in my Etsy shop. If I do, I will sell it for around $5-6.

Day 9 - Bridal Flower

Every once in a while, I get the urge to cut up my wedding dress and make flowers from it's remains. No worries, it's only the very bottom of my dress. After our wedding (almost 3 years ago) I cut some bottom layers to shorten the dress, my plans are still to have it hemmed and dyed beige so I can wear it to special occasions. I see no use of it just hanging in my closet, I want to be able to wear it again.
This headband is probably the largest one I've ever made, due to the thickness of the fabric from my dress. I wouldn't recommend this headband for babies, it would completely overwhelm their little heads. This headband would fit ages 5+ perfectly. I would love to see it on a little flower girl, it would just be darling.

Day 8 - Be My Valentine

I love the feeling of excitement I get when sharing with you a headband that I am truly proud of.  With Valentines day in mind, I couldn't help but think of "pink" and "hearts".  I'm not a big fan of the traditional V-day color scheme, so I decided to mix it up with the sheer brown bow.  I like that it doesn't scream "HAPPY VALENTINES DAY", making it a perfect accessory for any occasion.

Day 7 - Cant always make a winner...

Not every headband I make is going up in my Etsy shop. This is one of those headbands. I simply don't think it meets my standards for my shop. I kinda think it's.... well... ugly lol. I blame it on my work schedule yesterday. I work outside of my home on Mondays and didn't get back until late. Honestly, the last thing I wanted to do was make a headband. But I made a commitment. Tomorrows band will be much better :)

Day 6 - Lovely in Lavender

This was my first time making these round flowers (there's a name of them, I just can't think of it). I had no idea initially where I was going with this piece,  I just knew that I wanted to make these flowers. I noticed there was no purple in my collection of headbands yet. I've had this birdcage netting laying around for months now wondering what to do with it., and I'm happy I finally found use for it. The purple in the picture isn't exactly accurate to the actual piece, which is more of a bright royal purple and a shimmery lavender.

Day 5 - Modern Cowgirl

This lovely headband is sprinkled will all kinds of southern sweetness. From the lace bow to the brown fringes, it's sure to bring out to the cowgirl!
I've been trying to use those brown fringes for a long time now, I'm very happy they've finally found a home with this gorgeous mauve ruffled flower. I've never been a fan of mauve, or any color resembling pink; but add a little blue in there and it really brightens the whole headpiece up.

Day 4- Classy Little Lady

Today I had a bit of a creative block. I kept jumping from idea to idea, from color to color. Needless to say, this headband took an exceptional amount of time. I'm really happy with the outcome considering it took me literally an hour to settle on the color scheme alone. Classy, right? I think so anyhow.
I noticed something today during my big creative block; I can't plan the day before for what kind of style or colors I'm going to use tomorrow. Does that make sense? I'm like that with clothes too. I never end up wearing the clothes I picked out the night before. There's just something different about me the next day that doesn't seem to go with that outfit, no matter how much I liked it the previous evening. My problem today when making a headband was that I was stuck on my ideas from yesterday.  It was down right frustrating!  What is even more frustrating is that I have even more ideas for tomorrows headband, I guess we'll find out how they'll clash with tomorrows ideas lol.

Day 3 - Ice Cold!!

Baby it's cold outside, well... kinda, it's cold for South Florida. Some of my Northern Friends might laugh at me; but as soon as the temp hits 70 degrees, the heater goes on. All this cold weather has gotten to my brain and is coming out in my headbands, I'm just loving the "ice-cold" look to this one.
The Tiffany-blue fabric flower measures 2 in by 2 in. Horizontally from end-to-end it measures 4 3/4 inches.

Day 2 - I'm in Love!

"Like" SkylyLove on Facebook: SkylyLove on Facebook

How adorable is this headband?! Sorry babies, but this ones for mommy. I'm in LOVE with this headband, it actually irks me a bit to put it up in my Etsy shop, I want it! lol.  But here it is up for grabs, who knows when I'll be making another like it. I guess I sort of have a thing for not liking to repeat projects. I really enjoy making one and moving on.
The metal band is a one-size fits all. The gray-brown fabric ruffles measure 2 in. by 8 3/4 in. This item is ready to ship as soon as a receive an invoice though my Etsy shop, SkylyLove.

New Headband Everyday!

"Like" SkylyLove on Facebook

So, to challenge myself this year, I've decided to create a new headband every day for the next 100 days.  Every headband that I post will be up for grabs in my Etsy shop, SkylyLove. Make sure to get it while it's hot, as it will be a one of a kind! Once it's gone it's GONE.
This first headband consists of my absolute favorite color scheme, black and turquoise. I love how the polka-dots add a little bit of an old-time 40's look with the help of the feathers; while the turquoise gives it a more modern look. Laid over the fabric flowers are 2 buttons I just happened to find in my abundant collection. The black and clear button is in very short supply, I only have 2 left and found it in a "grandma's button bag" I got at Michaels 5 years ago. The 2 flower pieces together, measure 4 in. by 2 1/4 in. the 2 feathers protrude another inch from the side.
To view price and different sizes, see my Etsy listing:
