How to Fray Ribbon: Vintage Look

I have a "Headband of the Day" for you all, but first I wanted to share with you a little tutorial on fraying ribbon. I love the look of frayed ribbon, it's an easy way to give any project a more vintage look. The ribbon in this tutorial is100% polyester ribbon which I find works best for fraying.

Use sharp scissors to cut the sealed sides off your ribbon. Try to stay as close to the edge as possible without cutting into the sealed part.

Use your thumb nail to gently pick apart exactly how much of your ribbon you want frayed from the edge.

Gently pull down the thread until it is completely removed from the end of your ribbon.
Sealing Tip: You can seal the ends of your ribbon by lightly melting it with a lighter.

I love using this fraying technique in a lot of my floral headbands, it just adds the perfect amount of detail to any ribbon project.

In this headband I frayed both the flowers and the ribbon.

Frayed the left beige rolled flower.

Frayed white rolled flower.
